Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal system (nerves, muscle, bones) and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic is used most often to treat musculoskeletal (MSK) complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches. Doctors of Chiropractic, referred to as chiropractors, practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes a comprehensive history taking and physical examination, diagnosis, informed consent and treatment.

Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counselling. The “adjustment” is the most common form of treatment utilized by chiropractors in clinical practice. The adjustment, also known as spinal manipulative therapy, is a non-invasive, manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed through four years of intensive chiropractic education. The adjustment is a carefully controlled procedure delivered by a skilled practitioner to dysfunctional joints of the spine, extremities and temporomandibular joints. The primary goal is to decrease pain and restore function by improving areas of reduced movement in the joints and supporting tissues, and decreasing muscle tightness or spasm.

Chiropractors also provide advice on nutrition, fitness, ergonomics, among others, that may be useful in managing or preventing a variety of health conditions.

Legislative bodies across Canada, as well as researchers and governments around the world have conducted extensive reviews of chiropractic and have consistently endorsed chiropractic services.

Registered Massage Therapy

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) assesses and treats physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissues (muscles, fascia, tendons) of the body, mostly by hands-¬on treatment. Assessment and treatment by an RMT can include orthopaedic and neurological testing, soft tissue therapy (such as deep tissue massage, Swedish massage), remedial exercise programs and client education programs. Contact or visit us to find out more about our massage services.

Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Our Contemporary Medical Acupuncture (CMA) trained and certified practitioners practice CMA techniques which take the ancient acupuncture therapy and re-define its mechanisms and effects using present-day scientific understanding of human physiology. Single use, sterile, disposable needles are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated manually or with electricity for the therapeutic purpose of modulating abnormal activity of the nervous system by stimulating peripheral nerves. Contact or visit us to find out more about our acupuncture services.

Clinical Psychology

We provide psychological & counselling assessment and treatment services with a primary focus on assisting individuals in dealing with psychological reactions related to rapid and abrupt changes to their health status or personal situation. This may be because of injury, illness, or other life-altering events. Contact or visit us to find out more about our psychological services.

Custom Orthotics

Your feet play an important role in your overall health, they serve as a strong base to your body when you’re standing and walking. At times, however, your feet and body may benefit from extra support by wearing custom-made foot orthotics. A foot orthotic is an externally applied device that is custom designed and fitted to the body that can help:

  • control biomechanical alignment
  • correct or accommodate deformity
  • protect and support an injury
  • assist in rehabilitation
  • reduce pain
  • increase mobility

Chiropractors are trained to assess if and when you may benefit from custom-made foot orthotics. As part of the biomechanical assessment, the evaluation may include observation, gait analysis, functional analysis, neurological and orthopedic testing. This will help determine if custom-made orthotics are appropriate for you. Contact or visit us to find out more about our custom-made foot orthotics.

Medical Gradient Compression Hosiery

Medical gradient compression hosiery and socks improve venous and lymphatic blood flow. Compression hosiery and socks are designed to deliver a controlled amount of pressure which is greatest at the ankle and gradually decreases toward the top of the stocking. This gradient pressure promotes better venous blood flow which, in turn, helps to control swelling, varicosities, leg fatigue and other problematic leg conditions.

At Upper James Wellness Clinic, our qualified and licensed professionals have more than 10 years of combined experience measuring, dispensing and fitting our customers with quality stylish and comfortable compression therapy and donning accessories. Our professionals are certified custom lymphedema compression garment fitters for both upper and lower extremities. Contact us to find out more about our wide variety of custom-fitted and custom-made compression garments.

What conditions do compression hosiery and socks benefit?

  • Swelling
  • Leg fatigue or pain

  • Venous ulcers
